Grow

Sprout Kitchen is an incubator for food entrepreneurs to create and expand their emerging or existing food business. Sprout Kitchen will offer accessible classes, hands-on training and mentorship to diverse food entrepreneurs as they cultivate and scale their products and services. We are excited by the opportunity to grow the regional foods economy by creating opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs and producers to thrive!

Make

Sprout Kitchen will operate a shared commercial kitchen facility that will provide specialized processing, testing and packaging equipment, cooler and freezer storage, delivery and distribution infrastructure, and a licensed commercial kitchen. Food entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to make a range of products including baked goods, frozen foods, dehydrated foods, canned goods and more!

Market

Sprout Kitchen will provide training and support to food entrepreneurs who want to get their products to markets across the province. Whether it’s packaged and labelled produce for a grocery chain, on-tap kombucha for a local store, an ingredient for a value added product, or packaged prepared foods for food distributors to hospitals and restaurants, we will get you there. Sprout Kitchen will open new markets for local farmers and growers by encouraging and supporting food entrepreneurs to buy local products as often as possible.

Connect

Sprout Kitchen will create opportunities for stakeholders in local food and agriculture to strengthen existing relationships and generate new ones. At Sprout Kitchen, food entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to build their food businesses alongside one another, encouraging an inclusive and supportive regional foods economy where they live.

How Does Membership Work?

Membership packages are based on hours of kitchen use per month. Per hour rental rates are discounted based on the number of hours of use. A basic membership includes use of a workstation, fridge and freezer space and the dishwasher while in the building. Additional rates will apply for rental of other equipment.

There are a few requirements to operate your business in Sprout Kitchen. You will need a City of Quesnel business license, a Permit to Operate from Northern Health, an up to date Food Safe certificate and business insurance. We have a great infographic on our blog with links to some helpful information and online forms!

Once you are ready to start working in the Food Hub, we ask that you book out workstations and equipment as soon as possible. Rentals are on a first come first served basis so we cannot guarantee that the equipment you want to use will be available at your requested times.

Memberships are flexible and can be changed month to month. Please contact us to request a full rate sheet or if you have any questions!

Non- member Services

Storage

We offer short or long term fridge and freezer storage. If you are only accessing storage, you do not need to be a member of Sprout Kitchen and are not required to have a City business license or a Health Permit. Insurance is recommended so that you are covered in case of an emergency.

Classes and Workshops

Workshops and classes are open to anyone. You do not need to be a business or member to sign up! Stay tuned to our social media pages for more information about upcoming classes and sign up information!

Personal Use

Do you run out of space in your kitchen during canning season every year? We offer personal use day rates for the production of products for personal use. All you need is a current Food Safe certificate!
