Sprout Kitchen is currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Food Hub Manager. This is a permanent, full-time position, subject to funding availability. The Food Hub Manager will Manage Sprout Kitchen operations, including the supervision of staff and/or contracted support personnel. The Food Hub Manager will work to recruit food hub members and develop revenue streams ensuring the long-term sustainability of Sprout Kitchen.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate programs to improve the business skills of members of the Sprout Kitchen Hub. 

  • Seek partnerships with retailers, producers and farmers to create opportunities for sales for members.

  • On-boarding and orientation of new members. Create an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment in the Kitchen. Engage, supervise and support members and users of the facility. Respond to member concerns and questions.

  • Work at the direction of the Board to implement strategic plan and prepare reports for stakeholders. Provide administrative support to the board, schedule board meetings and post minutes to Sprout Kitchen website. Submit annual AGM report to Province.

  • Set and manage program budgets and prepare statements for the board and City of Quesnel staff. Manage and track finances and bookkeeping, complete monthly reconciliation and payroll using Quickbooks.  Ensure that monthly expenses and bills are paid on time. Submit end of year paperwork to accountant.

  • Track kitchen use by members and invoice members monthly using Square.

  • In cooperation with the City of Quesnel seek out program funding opportunities, develop applications, and report to funders. Complete reporting and manage grant funding for Sprout Kitchen grants.

  • Assist with ongoing kitchen maintenance, inventory, cleanup and sanitation. Arrange for equipment repairs and maintenance as needed.  Complete and/or monitor weekly and monthly cleaning according to sanitation plan. Maintain supply of janitorial products.

  • Assist with planning, preparing for, and facilitating workshops and Food safety training. Ensure safe and hygienic food handling practices are learned and implemented by members.

  • Run the label printer service as needed.

  • Together with other Sprout Kitchen staff, work to develop and produce Sprout Kitchen branded products and marketing materials and attend events, representing and promoting Sprout Kitchen as needed.

  • Coordinate and work to develop and expand the delivery service.  Supervise delivery driver and/ or drive delivery van when needed. Schedule van maintenance.   

  • Willingness to complete Food Safe Level 1 and 2.

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business, community food systems, public health, environmental/food policy, economic development, food production, grocery or related field

  • Interest in local, sustainable, and seasonal food

  • Experience in food, agricultural, and/or garden education, including program development and coordination and/or Knowledge and skills in food safety, cooking and food processing.

  • Supervisory experience an asset

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and creating a positive work environment.

  • Self-motivated, hardworking, professional, dependable, well-organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Marketing, graphic design, and promotional skills are an asset

  • Ability to coach start-up businesses with business development skills

  • Foodsafe Level 1 is mandatory, Foodsafe Level 2 Preferred

  • Effective organizational, planning and time management skills to manage multiple programs and demands

  • Ability to work some evenings and some weekends

  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office and Google applications

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds)

  • Ability to lift 25 kg 

 Salary: $28.00 per hour

Sprout Kitchen is currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Media and Marketing Coordinator. The position is 14 hours per week. Responsibilities

  • Recruit food hub members and respond to enquiries via social media, email etc.

  • Assist with planning, preparing for, and facilitating workshops, events and Food safety training.

  • Develop a training program for classes and workshops at the kitchen.

  • Working with the food hub manager to develop, implement and evaluate programs to improve the business skills of members of the Sprout Kitchen Hub.

  • Seek partnerships with retailers, producers and farmers to create opportunities for sales for members and to create a collective marketing strategy.

  • Coordinate the delivery service with the Kitchen Coordinator by scheduling the routes and delivery times/ days, implementing an ordering system for the grocery network and ensuring that the Kitchen Coordinator has up to date order information. Network with the businesses involved in the service area to develop collective Food Hub marketing and develop a supply chain for local products. 

  • Help to develop ongoing marketing strategies, update website, manage social media account, develop marketing materials ie, brochures when needed.

  • Occasionally attend events and farmers markets.

  • Assist with ongoing kitchen maintenance, inventory, cleanup and sanitation.

  • Print labels for members and provide business consulting services for clients such as help with label or logo design.

Qualifications

  • Experience in social media and marketing, graphic design and promotional skills.

  • Networking and building relationships in the grocery, retail or restaurant industry or related experience is an asset.  

  • Interest and experience in food, agricultural, and/or garden education, including program development and coordination.

  • Interest in local, sustainable and seasonal food.

  • Skill and comfort in public speaking and teaching.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and creating a positive work environment.

  • Self-motivated, hardworking, professional and dependable.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Well organized and detail oriented.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Food safe level 1 or willing to take food safe level 1.
